Photography Workshop Senja Island

Join me for a Senja Photo Tours to capture some of the most impressive and dramatic landscapes from Northern Norway.  It can be considered as the little sister of the most popular Lofoten Islands, but it still has its own personality. Its glacier shaped mountains, minimalist atmosphere and peaceful fjords makes it one of the most amazing places to visit in northern Norway.

This February 2026 Senja Island Workshop is an amazing opportunity to visit this remote, and almost untouched place in all its glory. The winter vibes are likely to bring wonderful atmosphere alongside rough weather. Bringing you to all amazing sights around the Island is my goal.  Teaching you as much as I can about various photography topics such as long exposure or night photography is also art of my mission. Let's not forget the opportunity to exchange and network with other fellow photographers.

Itinerary

This 2026 Senja photography tour is suited to any fitness level as most spot are reachable within a few minutes walking. We will be driving around the Islands, and I will ensure that we will always be at the right place at the right time.

Day 1

All participants to this Senja Photography Workshop will need to arrive on February 8th 2026 in Tromso. We will meet at Tromso Airport, and will spend our first night there. This will help to make sure all participants arrive on time, especially in case of delayed flights, which is possible in that area of Norway. We will take this time to explore the area, including Kvaloya Island, from where we will go to chase the northern lights if the weather allows.

Day 2 to 4

We will leave early morning to catch the first lights of the day on our way to the ferry towards Senja Island. Once landed on Senja Island, we will immediately start exploring the area and take amazing photographs along the way. We will head to our accommodation for the next three nights for sunsets where great lights can be observed. This will also be our first spot for the northern lights in Senja Island.

During the first part of this Senja Island workshop 2026, we will start by exploring the northern part of the Island. There won't be a fix schedule from day 2 to day 4, as we will plan our days depending on the weather forecasts for the next day. Don't worry, even with poor weather conditions, the Island remains beautiful to photograph. In any case, we will ensure to visit all major view points and more during those days.

The main locations visited during these days include Mefjordvaer, Husoy, the Devil's Teeth, and much more.

Day 4 to 6

The second part of the Senja photography workshop 2026 will be dedicated to exploring the southern part of Senja Island, where beautiful mountains, fjords and vast areas of snow will keep appearing in front of us.

As for the first 3 days, we will keep our schedule flexible and adapt to the weather. We will nonetheless ensure to visit the nicest areas of the island including Gryllefjord, Silfjord, Hamn, etc.

Day 7

After a last sunrise on Senja Island we will head back towards Tromsø, and make stops along the road as we are crossing amazing locations (and trust me there will be!).

Our sunset will be spent at a beautiful location on our way to Nordfkjosbotn, and not so well known location close to our accommodation for the night.

We will stay overnight at about one hour from Tromsø from where we will hopefully be able to observe the northern lights.

Day 8

This will be the last day of this Senja Island guided photography tour. Depending on participants' flying time that day, we will either head for sunrise or drive directly to Tromsø Airport after breakfast. Once at Tromsø Airport, it will be time to leave each other after a warm goodbye.

Note that if some participants are having their flight later in the afternoon, we could still have the possibility to explore some beautiful areas close to Tromsø to which I'd be happy to bring you.

General information

A typical day will start with breakfast at our accommodation and then go directly to our sunrise location. .

For lunch, we will have a picnic or lunch bag from our hotels to ensure that we do not waste some precious time looking for a place to eat, which is rather difficult on the Island.

More information about meals in the below section "Accommodation, Food & Transportation"

During the week, a post treatment session and a group photo review will be held, where each participant can discuss any photography related topic.

On the best nights, auroras in Senja Island can last for hours, and stopping photographing them might be difficult, and we won't stop doing so until the group gets tired of it (which is unlikely). However, this can render the workshop schedule difficult and exhausting, therefore participants will be free to rest whenever they feel the need for it.
